Memphis design is an aesthetic movement that emerged in the 1980s as a militant against the boredom of design, which some consider to be too uniform. It is characterised by scattered forms and lines and bright colours directly inspired by cubism, Harlem Renaissance art and the pop movement of the 1960s. However, the movement that has had the greatest influence on the Memphis style is modern minimalism. For this reason, circles and triangles with black and white graphic patterns, such as polka dots and wavy lines, are generally used. The primary colours (red, yellow, blue and green) are representative of this anti-good taste movement. This bold and revolutionary style was first launched in furniture by the "Memphis Group" in Milan, Italy. It features a combination of unlikely materials such as wood, plastic and metal.
